Following an extensive search that spanned nearly two years, the Search Committee of Saint David’s United Church, Rothesay, recommended the appointment of Alicia Walls as Principal Minister at a special virtual meeting of the congregation held on Monday, June 1st via Zoom Video/Audio Conference.
Rev. Steve Longmoore, representing the Pastoral Relations Committee of Fundy St. Lawrence Dawning Waters Regional Council of the United Church of Canada, opened the meeting with greetings and prayer. Alyson Townsend (Chair of the Search Committee) then explained the process that had brought them to their decision before announcing Alicia as the chosen candidate. “We are thrilled to have Alicia as our principal minister,” Alyson commented during the meeting. “We are confident that her skills and attributes match the needs of our congregation.” There being no questions raised, the 95 members and adherents present voted unanimously to approve the recommendation of the Search Committee.
In addition to the motion to accept the appointment of Alicia Walls as Principal Minister, a motion was made to disband the Search Committee, with thanks. The Search Committee was made up of Alyson Townsend (Chair), John Eisner, Barb Gibson, Adam Raeburn, and Rev. Steve Longmoore, representing the Pastoral Relations Committee of Fundy St. Lawrence Dawning Waters Regional Council of the United Church of Canada. A further motion was made instructing the Official Board to determine the needs and requirements for the youth/outreach position being vacated by Alicia.
Alicia has been a member of the staff at Saint David’s since 2008, having started her ministry as Staff Associate before moving on to her role as Designated Lay Minister responsible for Youth and Young Families. Alicia graduated from the Atlantic School of Theology in 2013 with a Diploma in Youth Ministry. Since the departure of the former Lead Minister in 2017, Alicia has continued to ensure that the life and ministries of Saint David’s run smoothly – preaching and overseeing pastoral care while still providing programming for children, youth, and families. Alicia is currently completing coursework towards designation as a Diaconal Minister through the Centre for Christian Studies in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
“I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to continue in this new ministry at Saint David’s,” stated Alicia upon hearing the results of the meeting’s vote. “My sincere thanks to the congregation for your continued support. I am very excited for the journey that lies ahead!”
Alicia will officially begin a two-year (renewable) appointment as Principal Minister on September 1, 2020. A Service of Covenanting will be held at a future date.
