The Outreach Committee supports a wide range of charitable projects, educating the congregation to the physical and spiritual needs of people in our community, across Canada and around the world.
The Outreach Committee raises money to support their initiatives through, White Gift offerings at Christmas time, free-will collection on Christmas Eve, private donations, the yard sale held in June, and as well through their “Nearly New” semi-annual clothing sales held in October and April. The many families that are in need in our community, appreciate the opportunity to shop for clothing free of charge on the final day of each sale and unsold items are sorted and donated to many community organizations.
We currently support the following programs:
Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Child Haven International, Medecins Sans Frontieres, and Operation Smile
AIDSJ, SJ Boys & Girls Club, Romero mobile van, KV Oasis Youth Centre, Outflow Foundation, Kiwanis Dental, KV Firefighters (Christmas), SJ School Milk Fund, Persons in need, KVFB, Harry Miller Middle School, Outflow Ministry, Rothesay High School, Rothesay High School Interact Club, and Saint David’s
We spend approximately $1,100 for non-food items for the KVFB to purchase toiletry items each year. We also make numerous loads of homemade laundry soap, using Sunlight soap, Borax and washing soda where most is donated to the KVFB.
Kathy Graham continues to receive phone calls for Christmas assistance, coordinates it with the Christmas Exchange and sends the names to the KV Firefighters. We send many warm hats, mittens and scarves thanks to some wonderful knitters and the generosity of the UCW. Numerous families are assisted every year.
We also provide persons in need with gift cards for groceries at Sobeys, Superstore and as well as gas cards at Irving, purchased though the FUNdraising Avgen order.
We receive a lot of support from the congregation and appreciate the continued volunteer time that the members offer throughout the year.
The Outreach Committee meets the second Tuesday of most months at 7:00 pm and are always open to new members!
